The prayer of a 51-year-old woman, Yinka Adewole, before a Badagry magistrate court in Lagos State to dissolve her 25-year-old marriage to Temitope Adewole, has been answered.
Yinka had told the court her husband was “an unrepentant womanizer whose stock in trade is running after women.”
The petitioner, a civil servant, who lives at No 30, FMPWH Yard, Seme Road, also said Adewale had not been performing his roles as a husband in their matrimonial home.
“My husband is a thief. He steals from me and doesn’t perform his responsibility as a husband. At least, if I don’t have a child of my own, I should have rest of mind. Enough is enough,” she said.
The president of the court, Mr. Sakirudeen Adekola, observed that it was clear that there was no more love between the couple and advised them to move on with their lives individually.
Granting Yinka’s divorce request at the weekend, Adekola said, “It is clear that all efforts to reconcile the parties had failed. It is meaningless to advise them to keep living together. Anyone who is not satisfied with the judgment can appeal within 80 days. Violation of any of the orders made by the court amounts to contempt and shall be so treated with the appropriate sanctions.”
