Three persons were feared killed on Monday evening when a group of armed robbers attacked a new generation bank in Ijero Ekiti in the Ijero Local Government Area of the state.
Sources said the robbers gained entry into the bank at about 5.30pm after blowing up the security doors with dynamites, and followed that up by sporadic gunshots.
“The sound of the exploding dynamites threw the environment into confusion. There were casualties. I think two policemen and one other person died. I cannot say whether that was as a result of the dynamite explosion or gunshots,” one of the source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Command, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, who spoke with our correspondent from the robbery scene where he said he had gone to gather reliable information on the incident, confirmed the robbery attack.
Ikechukwu said, “There were casualties. They (robbers) succeeded by using dynamites to gain access into the banking hall and the robbery took place around 5:30pm on Monday.
“There was no casualty on the side of the bank. There were two on the side of the police.”
