Seven people were confirmed dead and 10 injured in an auto crash involving an 18-seater bus conveying passengers to Gombe State, along the Damaturu – Potiskum Road in Yobe State.
Confirming the accident, Mohammad Sani Hamzat, sector commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state, said seventeen passengers were in the vehicle (Gombe line mass transit)
He said the driver was speeding when a rear tyre burst and “the car plunged to the other lane and crashed”.
He said that seven people died instantly and his men rescued 10 of the passengers that sustained various degrees of injuries.
“The injured are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, while the dead were in the morgue” he added.
He attributed the accident to high speed and use of expired tyres.
